Adult Individual Psychotherapy

Life can be challenging. Counselling provides people with an opportunity to work collaboratively with a psychologist to help understand, create shifts and live a life that is fulfilling. I work with you to find ways to build a life aligned to your values, and help you move through challenging thoughts and feelings.

I am trained as a generalist, working with clients who have a wide range of concerns. When appropriate, I work collaboratively with other medical and mental health professions to provide comprehensive care.

I have particular interest in working with individuals:

  • Experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, and anger.

  • Changes in roles, including divorce, marriage, work changes, etc.

  • Life transitions

  • Health changes

  • Parenting concerns

Adolescent Individual Psychotherapy

Mental health concerns are not limited to adults, and many adolescents face struggles that are unique to their developmental period. I believe in working collaboratively with the adolescent, their caregivers, and other professionals (e.g. school, medical, other mental health).

Although I am trained as a generalist, working with clients who have a wide-range of concerns, I have particular interest in working with children and adolescents:

  • experiencing stress, anxiety, depression and anger.

  • showing behavioural concerns at home, school and/or other areas of life.

  • with learning disorders including attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.

  • who are struggling to attend school regularly for a variety of reasons.

  • with transitions in family life (e.g. separation, divorce, remarriage, etc.).

  • with complex medical conditions.

  • whose siblings have complex medical conditions.

Child Play Therapy

Children experience a wide range of challenges in their lives. From bullying to divorce to learning or cognitive differences. Play therapy is a research-based, effective therapy for a wide range of concerns. I believe is working with both children and parents is the most effective way to make change and seek out ongoing parental support throughout the play therapy process.

Certified Play Therapists have extensive training and supervision using play therapy to ensure it is delivered in the most effective manner possible. In working with a Certified Play Therapist, you are working with someone who has advanced training and a minimum of 500 hours of supervision in the use of play therapy.

Play therapy has been used for a wide range of concerns. However, as a former teacher, I have a particularly interest in working with children who are:

  • experiencing stress, anxiety, depression and anger.

  • showing behavioural concerns at home, school and/or other areas of life.

  • with learning disorders including attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.

  • who are struggling to attend school regularly for a variety of reasons.

  • with transitions in family life (e.g. separation, divorce, remarriage, etc.).

  • with complex medical conditions.

  • whose siblings have complex medical conditions.

Telehealth: Video and Phone

Telehealth can be a wonderful way to make therapy more accessible, reduce travel time, and do therapy from anywhere in Alberta.  I use a secure video system from a private space to engage in video sessions.

While there are many benefits to telehealth, I will make the judgement at times that it is not appropriate for a client or for a concern, and recommend in-person or discontinue telehealth as necessary. Your safety, the effectiveness of therapy, and your health are my focus.

Psychoeducational Assessment

I do psychoeducational assessments to help assess children's learning, attention and memory capabilities. The assessment is tailored to the questions being asked by the child and family; it also will fit the school system requirements.

The back bone of the assessment is a clinical interview, parent and teacher report forms, a cognitive/intelligence test, and an academic test. If further testing of executive functioning or attention is required then this is added.

As a part of the assessment process, you will be provided with a written report that contains educational and treatment recommendations that can be sent to the school. Additionally, a 50-minute feedback session is provided to review the findings and recommendations.

Please contact me for more information on the process of psychoeducational assessments, cost, or other questions.
